How does a historic church reclaim relevance and redefine perception?
Creative Idea: Inclusivity Reintroduced
Myers Park Baptist Church, located in one of Charlotte’s most affluent neighborhoods, was facing declining attendance and misconceptions about who they were. Many assumed the church’s name reflected exclusivity — when in truth, their 80-year legacy was one of inclusion, compassion, and social justice. Instead of changing the name, nez&pez helped them own it. Through bold storytelling and visual rebranding, we turned assumptions on their head — transforming “Baptist” from a perceived barrier into a statement of open-to-all welcome.
A Bold Voice for Modern Faith
Myers Park Baptist Church didn’t whisper inclusivity — they declared it.
Through a vibrant, witty, and provocative campaign, we turned assumptions into invitations. Each poster, headline, and color choice reflected the church’s unapologetic embrace of diversity, equality, and belonging. Designed for both print and digital, the series captured attention across Charlotte and social media alike — proving that humor, honesty, and humanity can spread the gospel just as powerfully as tradition.
Inclusive Bathroom Signs That Sparked Conversation
Inclusivity isn’t just preached — it’s practiced. As part of Myers Park Baptist Church’s rebrand, nez&pez designed restroom signage that redefined what welcome looks like. The creative concept turned a simple church sign into a statement of love and belonging, reinforcing the message that everyone has a place here. What began as environmental design quickly became a viral expression of faith through action, earning attention across Charlotte and beyond.
Pew Pencils That Preached Inclusivity
Sometimes the smallest details make the most significant statement. We designed custom pew pencils featuring bold, thought-provoking lines from the campaign — each one a mini sermon in itself. They became instant conversation starters, with many visitors asking if it was okay to take them home (it was). By turning everyday church items into shareable brand artifacts, Myers Park Baptist spread its message of love, humor, and inclusivity far beyond the pews.
Sharing the Love on Social
Inclusivity doesn’t stop at the church doors. As part of the rebrand, Myers Park Baptist Church extended its message of unity online—celebrating holidays from Hanukkah to Geeta Jayanti to Kwanzaa. Each post reflected the church’s belief that faith and joy should be shared across all traditions, fostering dialogue, empathy, and connection in the digital community.
Small Sample of Huge Response
The campaign resonated across Charlotte, sparking heartfelt reactions from longtime residents and newcomers alike. Messages poured in thanking Myers Park Baptist for its courage, clarity, and compassion. What began as a local rebrand became a citywide reminder that faith can be bold, inclusive, and human.
Results:
The campaign delivered measurable change. Attendance and membership grew across racial, gender, and economic lines, reflecting the diversity of Charlotte itself. Donations increased, and the church became a trusted community hub and national media reference point for inclusive faith leadership. Myers Park Baptist didn’t just rebrand — it redefined what it means to be a Baptist church in today’s world.
